FAIRA is a community-controlled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organization that was established in Australia in 1977. While the initial focus of FAIRA was the abolition of discriminatory laws in the Australian state of Queensland, the longer-term objective of FAIRA has become to promote and protect the rights of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at the national level. A core interest of FAIRA has been the survival of the cultural identity of the people.

Research, political, social, cultural and economic
are all important.

From the outset FAIRA has lobbied for the protection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lands, territories and resources.
